Why are we fundraising?
To provide needed services:
Four year old Calum and his family were recently the recipients of trained service dog Golden Arches. Calum suffers from several serious ailments and is on a life respirator, a vital breathing device that cannot malfunction without leading to a life threatening situation. Archie has been trained to alert family members to this kind of malfunction in addition to providing Calum with unconditional companionship and motivation to use his muscles. |
 |
To help High School Students overcome adversity and develop employability skills:
By learning to train service dogs in the High School Assistance Dog Program, students learn to become more confident and become leaders. Grade 10 Student Heather has overcome bullying from the time she started Grade 1 to Grade 9 that led to her decision to leave school after Grade 10. With more confidence through her experience in the C.O.P.E. program, she has decided to stay in school and overcome bullying. |
 |
To Help Elementary Students increase their ability to read:
Student trainers help to promote literacy skills amongst elementary students, through our Reading Buddy program. They also provide companionship to the elderly through visits to seniors in hospitals and institutions. |
 |
It takes $22,000 and 2 years to teach the 90 commands that a service dog will need to support those with disabilities – and they need our help. C.O.P.E. relies on volunteers, sponsorship and generous donations in order to support the community.
C.O.P.E. is a registered charity and all donations are tax-deductible. |
